The oblique light of an early spring in Moscow defines the view of a badly mantained building surrounded by trees and uncultivated shrubs. Its charm of Constructivist building is not, however, affected by the missing plaster and the nailed windows. It is one of the main marks of the utopian dreams of the young Soviet state. It was designed by Moisei Ginzburg and Ignaty Milinis in 1928 with the aim of promote the “transition” to mode and collective habits of life for officials of Narodnyo Kommissariat Finansov (Commissariat of Finance), which takes its name Narcomfin. Social experimentation and architectural laboratory, provided some facilities and spaces (part of the kitchens, laundries, library) collective to encourage residents to be more “socialist” and encourage the empowerment of women. Its styel express the best of modernity in the architecture of the ’20s-’40s.
It is at number 25 Novinsky Boulevard in Moscow.
